A former Army freighter, the Major General Rogers was sank as part of an artificial reef project in the early 70’s. During that time, apparently there was a crisis with what to do with all of the old tires here on island. Well, the best idea that was thought of was to tie a whole bunch of them together and sink them as well to add to the artificial reef project. Be sure to look around as you are pretty much guaranteed to find old tires. Located in about 60’ of water, this 90’ freighter has a personality all of its own. With not so common painted and bluebell tunicates, fire worms, and sea-squirts, be sure and take your time combing this gorgeous reef. Located only 150 yards away is the Mary King. A self-propelled Barge laying wrong-side-up in about 65’ of water.
